With her trademark wit and a few favourite comforts nearby, Annabel Roberts had the last word as she left us – at peace and surrounded by her family at home – on Thursday May 7, 2026.
Born in Victoria-by-the-Sea, PEI on April 29, 1938, Annabel was the daughter of the late Anne (McBeath) and Clifford Lea. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband James, her young son, Jimmy and brother, Walter. Following in her mother’s footsteps, Annabel graduated from Mount Allison University in 1960, later living in Moncton, where she raised her family, before returning to her beloved Victoria for the next 30 years.
Carrying on her spirit are her proud children Lea Bryden, Sue O’Connor, Martha Stevens and Michael Roberts; her adoring sons- and daughter-in-law, Russ, Greg, Robert and Mary Robinson; a team of amazing grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she was so proud of, as they were of her: Megan (Matt), Patrick, William, Eric, Sarah, Hannah, Jane, Jake, John and Catherine; Rory, Mackenzie, Cameron and Nina; and a very large circle of extended family and friends of all ages who considered her an inspiration and their special person.
We will forever be grateful for the compassionate and responsive care of Dr. John Morash in recent months, and Drs. Megan Miller and Scott Campbell and Darcy Koke, RN at the end. They honoured Annabel’s beautiful spirit and held her family with compassion every step of the way.
Planning is underway for a Celebration of Life to be held in Victoria on Saturday May 23, 2026, with interment of ashes at Crapaud Peoples’ Cemetery this summer. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the South Shore Food Share, the Victoria Historical Association or the IWK Foundation.
And for as long as it lasts, join us in cheering on her beloved Habs as they make a long-awaited run for the Stanley Cup.
