It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara Jean Palmer (MacNeill) on November 30, 2024, at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.
Barbara was born on February 5, 1940, in O’Leary, PEI, to the late Lila (MacDonald) and Claude MacNeill. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Noel.
Barb is survived by her loving children, Carolyn (Lenley Adams) of Charlottetown and John of Dundas, ON; cherished grandchildren, Meghan Adams and Olivia Adams; and her sister, Claudette Arthur (Bob Brown).
Barb attended Prince of Wales College, where she pursued a career in nursing followed by a BSc in Public Health Nursing at Dalhousie University. She found fulfillment working as a Public Health Nurse and later as a Home Care & Support Liaison Coordinator at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
In their early retirement years, Barb and Noel enjoyed travelling on their many European adventures. Barb’s love of the outdoors was evident in her beautiful yard in Sherwood where she spent countless hours tending her extensive gardens. Her “grand dog,” Bailey, brought her immense joy and was always a welcome visitor, treated to a cheese slice during every visit.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the paramedics, Dr. Aaron Sibley, Dr. Jane Hennessey, and the nursing staff in the QEH ER and Unit 1 for their exceptional care, kindness, and support.
A reception in celebration of Barb’s life will be held at the Belvedere Funeral Home on Saturday, December 7, from 2 to 4 p.m. Interment will take place at a later date in the Wilmot Valley Cemetery.
If so desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the QEH Foundation.
