It is with heavy hearts that the family of Catherine (Cathy) Dora Binette. (nee Hawkes), age 72, of Charlottetown, PE announces her peaceful passing surrounded by her loved ones on November 11, 2025 at the beautiful PEI Palliative Care Centre.
Cathy was born in Charlottetown, PE to Olive (Downe) and Peter Hawkes. Cathy leaves behind her sister Lynn Hencher, her daughter, Natasha (Corey) MacNevin, her cherished 3 granddaughters, Katie (Riley) Decourcey, Hailie Livingston and Tricia (Connor) Boswall, her beautiful great grandsons Hayden Crane and Daniel DeCourcey and special friend Curtis MacNevin. Cathy is predeceased by her father Peter Hawkes, her mother Olive Hencher (nee Downe), her step father Albert Hencher, her brother Peter Hawkes and her son Patrick Binette.
Cathy is lovingly remembered for her quick wit and kind heart. Cathy lived in many locations across Canada over the years but moved back to Charlottetown 30+ years ago where she worked as LPN.
Cathy was a strong advocate for Organ and Tissue Donation. Over 30 years ago Cathy was given the gift of life when her best friend Patricia MacAskill of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Pat gave her a life saving kidney.
Cathy had many friends from her years working at Beach Grove, the Mount, Sunset Lodge and as a clinical nurse for a few local doctors. Those who knew Cathy well understand that we cannot begin to list the numerous people who Cathy called her dearest friends.
A special thank you to Dr. Chaudhary and the renal clinic staff; Dr. Murphy, Dr. Hennessey and Dr. White, the QEH Unit 8 staff; and the amazing doctors, nurses and staff at the PEI Palliative Care Center. Cathy and her family were truly blessed and amazed at the care provided by the above mentioned staff members who made the dark days a little brighter. A special mention to Amanda and Matt (Unit 8) and the folks at Connect Hearing in Charlottetown for going above and beyond to ensure Mom was able to hear in her final days.
Donations can be made in memoriam to the PEI Renal Clinic or the PEI Palliative Care Center.
The family will have a private ceremony followed by a Celebration of Life at the Belvedere Funeral Home Reception Centre on Sunday, November 16 from 2-4 PM.
