Corporal Curtis Moerike Obituary

“Our pain is great, but our love is much greater.”

With heavy hearts, the family announces the passing on September 24th at the QEII Halifax Infirmary of Corporal Curtis Anthony Moerike.

Born May 13th 1991 in Calgary, raised in PEI. Living in Halifax, Nova Scotia and working at the Canadian Forces Recruiting Centre.

Beloved son of Mary Ellen (Keefe) and Kevin Moerike, cherished brother of Lisa (Ben) Smith, Connor Moerike and Lauren Moerike (Corey). Adored uncle of Sawyer, Eevie and Nioki.

Lovingly remembered by Grandma and Grandpa Marie (Griffin), Clarence Keefe, aunts and uncles Laurie Stockford, Sandie (Chris) Lowe, Gerri Kiy (Aurel), Mark (Reta) Moerike, John (Tashia) Keefe, Robert (Peggy) Keefe, Joan Ann (Allan) Gavin.

Treasured cousin of Sean (Jordie), Kirstie (Jake), Maiya (Dane), Spencer (Alex), Andrew, Ryan (Terra), Keegan (Drewe), Evan (Grace), Veronica (Jordan), Victoria, Vanessa, Justine, Joshua, Aidan (Dylan), Owen, Matthew and Chloe.

Predeceased by Nana and Papa Patricia (Phillips) and Laverne Moerike, Aunt Cheryl Keefe, Uncle Dirk Kiy and Uncle Dennis Stockford.

When thinking about Curtis, and looking for comfort, please listen to one of his favourite songs, “My Way” by Frank Sinatra. He truly lived life his way.

Curtis was one of a kind. Always the first person to offer a helping hand, a book recommendation or a conversation about life and politics. Loved by many, valued by all.

His passions included teaching, traveling, and serving his country.  After graduating from UPEI with a political science degree he taught English in China for a few years. During this time he visited many countries to learn about their history and culture. When he decided it was time to come home, he rejoined the Canadian Armed Forces in the reserves where he worked for more than a decade, in later years working in recruiting to help aspiring service personnel plan their entry and career.

Thanks to the staff and doctors at the QEII Halifax Infirmary for their efforts. Specifically, Unit 8.2, 3IMCU, and Unit 5.2 ICU.

Resting at the Belvedere Funeral home. Wake 4 – 7 PM on Thursday October 2nd, funeral 2 PM Friday October 3rd in the funeral home chapel. To livestream or view his funeral please click on the following link Remembering Curtis
