With heavy hearts, the family of David Chukwuka announces his passing at the age of 26 on Wednesday, March 26th, 2025, in Toronto, Ontario.
David Covenant Chukwuma Chukwuka was born on May 1, 1998, to his loving parents, Boniface and Edith Chukuwuka, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. He graduated from Mea Mater Elizabeth High School in Enugu, Nigeria, in 2014, before moving to Charlottetown, PE, to continue his education. There, he earned his degree in Political Science from the University of Prince Edward Island before relocating to Halifax, Nova Scotia. It was in Halifax that he pursued his Juris Doctor degree from the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University.
David's academic and professional journey was marked by dedication and a diverse array of experiences. From milking cows at Brackley Farm to gaining legal experience at EW Scott Dickieson (PE) and working with in-house counsel at the Armor Group (NS), he embraced every opportunity to learn. After earning his law degree, he moved to Toronto, where he worked in corporate law at Cambridge LLP (ON) and later in private practice with Monardo Estate Law (ON).
Throughout his life, David received numerous accolades and academic scholarships, and he was deeply committed to serving his community. He volunteered extensively in both Charlottetown and Halifax, including his pro-bono work with Dalhousie Wills Project and his term on the board of Dalhousie’s Black Law Students Association.
David was passionate about many things. He enjoyed cooking for family and friends, creating and listening to music (particularly Fela Kuti), supporting his favorite sports teams (Manchester United, the LA Lakers, and the Cleveland Browns), playing FIFA, and attending live comedy shows. He was also dedicated to maintaining an active lifestyle, balancing regular gym sessions with CrossFit and marathon training. In 2023, David proudly ran in the Halifax Bluenose Marathon and the Toronto Waterfront Marathon.
David is predeceased by his grandmother Chinelo Catherine Anakweze and his grandfathers Samuel Chukwuka and Nwaya John Anawaeze. He is survived by his parents, Boniface and Edith, his siblings Marvellous and Joshua, his grandmother Janet, his large extended family of cousins, aunties, uncles and other relatives, as well as his close circle of friends who will remember him fondly.
David will be remembered for his incredible work ethic, kind heart, calming presence, and sharp wit. He let his actions speak louder than words, a true testament to his humility. His self-discipline and dedication to excellence inspired all those around him to pursue their own goals with passion and persistence. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. in the Belvedere Funeral Home Chapel in Charlottetown, PE with a burial in Sherwood Cemetery at a later date.
