Donald Steeves passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at home with his beloved wife of 50 years Alma by his side. Loving father to Laina Taylor (Rob), Cheryl (Jay) and loving Gpa to Ryan, William, Colin, Maria, Caitlyn, Ula, Emily and Andrew. He was the older brother to Gordon (Bonnie), Mackie (Sandra), Jamie (Theresa) and predeceased by his beloved brother Sandy (JoAnn) and his parents Lea and Katharine. He was also uncle to 12 wonderful nieces and nephews.
Donald was a third generation physician. He earned his undergraduate degree from Mount Allison University and his Medical degree from Dalhousie. He spent four years as a GP in Liverpool, N.S. He then returned to Dalhousie where he received his specialist in Internal Medicine. In 1979 he made the move to the Island where he worked at the Polyclinic and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. In 2006 he was honoured with the William Osler Award by the CSIM for his outstanding work in medicine.
Donald loved salmon fly fishing. He enjoyed his hobbies of beekeeping and collecting American Chestnuts. In his retirement while still able he enjoyed curling and was an avid crokinole player, even convincing some club members to attend the world’s tournament in Ontario.

There will be a visitation at the Belvedere Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 5th from 4-7pm and a funeral service Wednesday August 6th at 11am followed by a reception.
