With heavy hearts, the family of Dorothy May (Matheson) MacEwen, wife of the late John Sterling MacEwen, announces her passing which occurred on Friday, April 3, 2026, at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Born in Bonshaw (Appin Road), PE, on August 23, 1940, she was the daughter of the late John and Charlotte (Neale) Matheson.
She is survived by her children Randy (Lisa Lamont), Dwayne (Gina Steele), Ian (Charlene Butland), Lisa, and Cindy (Jamie Wood); grandchildren Madison, Summer, Aurora, Cameron, Evan, Abby, Carter, Deven, Sahara, Keiran and Dayley; siblings Carol Girard, Sumner Matheson, Jim Matheson (Patsy) and Keith Matheson; sister-in-law Mary MacEwen; special friend Leonard Gallant; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Those with the honour of knowing Dorothy experienced her boundless energy, eternal optimism, and zest for life. Whether teaching in a one-room school house, supporting John in his construction business, or socializing with family and friends while playing cards, bowling, camping, travelling abroad, or dancing at a ceilidh (or in the kitchen!), Dorothy was always in motion, full of laughter, and ready for the next adventure.
