Doyle Hachey Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that Doyle’s family announce his passing on July 28th, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family and in peace at home in Brackley Beach, PEI.

He will be deeply missed by his wife of 41 years, Sharon (O’Connor), their children Luke (Emily Carlaw) and Emma (Harry Bruce), sister Michelle Hicks, brother-in-law and friend Cecil Hicks and nephews Ben and Jacob. Loved and remembered by “Aunt Mamie” Marion MacIntosh.

Also loved and missed by many friends, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and cousins in the Hachey and O’Connor families along with sisters and brothers- in- law Sandra Gallant, Roy Drake, Dolores Steele, Nancy MacKinnon, Pat O’Connor (Margie), Steve O’Connor (Sandra), Terry O’Connor (Heidi) and Charlotte MacAulay (Gerard).

Predeceased by his parents  Edmund Hachey and Maxine (Doyle) Hachey, brother Peter Hachey, nephew Mike Hachey, father-in-law Leonard O’Connor, mother-in law, Rita (Gallant) O'Connor, brothers-in-law Gerard O’Connor, Phillip Steele, Joe Gallant, Michael O’Connor, sister-in-law Maureen Drake and nephew Casey Steele.

Raised in Etobicoke, Ontario, Doyle’s family relocated to Springhill, NS in his teens. Following high school Doyle attended Mount Allison university before joining the Correctional Service of Canada at Dorchester penitentiary where his contributions as a Correctional Officer, Parole Officer and Institutional Security Officer would span 30 years.

Married in 1984, Doyle and Sharon made homes in Memramcook NB, Sackville NB where they raised their family, and Brackley Beach PEI. With Sharon, Doyle enjoyed renovating, building, creating, gardening and landscaping throughout his working years and retirement. Through his passion for photography he ensured that his family, their projects and the beauty of nature was well documented.

We are all very grateful for the health care and support staff in New Brunswick and PEI, whose curiosity, compassion, and care granted him quality of life for 25 years that was truly remarkable in the face of medical complexity.

A celebration of Doyle’s life will be held at the Belvedere Funeral Home chapel in Charlottetown on Thursday, July 31st at 1:00 p.m. followed by a time of food and friendship in the reception centre. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Doyle can be made to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation.
