Dr. John Timothy Goddard, MSM

With heavy hearts and appreciation for a life well lived, the family of Dr. John Timothy Goddard, MSM, announce his passing on Wednesday January 22nd in Charlottetown, PE from brain cancer.  

Born in Leeds, England on May 17, 1953, Tim was the son of the Anthony James and Olive Betty (Day) Goddard. He was predeceased by his parents, his daughter Nichola, and his brother Patrick. 

Tim is survived by Sally, his wife of 47 years, his daughters Victoria and Kate, his son-in-law Jay, his brothers Simon (Irina), Paul (Janet) and Michael (Corinne), several nieces and nephews, his dog Kula; and innumerable colleagues and friends around the world. 

Tim dedicated his life to education, leaving his mark on schools and communities from the Canadian Arctic to the Trobriand Islands of Papua New Guinea. From his beginnings as a teacher of art and geography in England in 1974 to his years in post-conflict educational reconstruction initiatives in Kosovo, Slovenia, Kenya, Lebanon, and Afghanistan, Tim was committed to the belief that education is the key to transforming lives. 

He served as both professor and in the university administrations of St. F.X., the University of Calgary, UPEI, and most recently at Yorkville University in New Brunswick. He was a photographer, artist, writer, storyteller, and keen gardener whose summer garden parties will be fondly remembered, as will his many stories around the dinner table.

Resting at Belvedere Funeral Home, with visitation on Saturday 1st February, 2-4pm.
His funeral service will be held from St. John’s Anglican Church, Crapaud on Sunday, 2nd February, at 2pm.
