The death occurred on Sunday, 19 April, 2026 of Edward L. (Ted) Marsh, aged 92.
Husband for 64 years to the late Earlene (Lavers). Father to Teddy (Therese), Debra MacKay (Tony, dec) and Lise Marsh. Also survived by his grandchildren, Ryan Marsh (Breann Burgoyne), Bradley Marsh (Heather), Brandie Kelly (Mark Goodyear), Caley Kelly, Jessica Gillan (David), Jimmy Gillan; step-grandchildren, Erin Price (Scott), Adam Cole (dec), and Vanessa Cole; ten great-grandchildren; ex-daughter-in-law, Janice Wright (Gary Stordy); brother-in-law, Stu Lavers (Carol Ann Conner); sister-in-law, Andrea Reid; and many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his parents, William and Edith; brothers, Buster and Victor; sisters, Eileen, Ethel, June and Joan; sisters-in-law, Pat Marsh, Carol Lavers (MacCallum) and Clara Ladner (Sterling); brothers-in-law, Sterling Ladner and Doug Reid. Ted was the last member of his immediate family.
Ted was born and raised hard scrabble on the streets of Toronto, where he had to leave school in grade eight to work, and help his mother support the household. Sometime in the late fifties, he met a fiery red head from PEI at a dance with a bunch of Newfoundlanders and a romance was born. Earlene and Ted were wed in Toronto in August of 1957 and their first child “Teddy” was born in '58. Soon after there came the migration to Charlottetown and two more wee ones, Debra, followed by Lise.
Dad worked a variety of jobs to support his young family, eventually opening his own business, T.M. Welding Supplies in 1972, followed by T&K Fire Equipment. He later sold off T&K to partner Kenny Coles.
Ted was an avid sportsman as well. An excellent bowler, curler, softball player and golfer.
He gave back to his community through his volunteering with the Kinsmen Club (former President of the club and lifetime member); K40 Club; sponsoring many youth teams through TM Welding; and volunteering with the Charlottetown Curling Club (timing events, teaching young curlers, organizing bonspiels, running the commercial league). For decades, Dad was the organizer of the annual curling event for the PEI Road Builders Association convention.
All of theses were accomplished hand in hand with his life’s partner, Earlene. Without her help, his success would not have been possible. Through life’s trials and tribulations, they walked hand in hand. He missed her dearly following her passing in 2021.
Ted was an avid wine maker and kept fermenting his own until he was almost 90 years old. Ted was also a pickle, relish and jam maker extraordinaire. We all received Christmas baskets full of wine, jams, relish and pickles, as well as Mom’s fruitcakes, pound cakes and short breads. He was always out in the yard every spring and summer, working his flower beds and gardens, something he truly enjoyed.
Ted was always ready with a bad joke, mostly unsuitable for the occasion!
So, it is with heavy hearts and gratitude for a long life, we bid adieu to our familial patriarch, an inspiration to his family. Rest well, you've earned it.
Love, your Family.
Remains entrusted to Belvedere Funeral Home. As per Dad's wishes, there will be no wake, service or burial. Cremation has taken place.
Donations to the QEH Foundation would be appreciated, in recognition of the tremendous care Ted received while a patient in Unit 3. We would like to extend our deepest appreciation to Dr.'s Hennessy, Murphy, McGinn and MacKenzie, as well as the excellent nursing staff of Unit 3. They had Dad's comfort at top of mind during his final days.
Memories and messages of condolence may be shared with the family on the tribute wall.
