It is with heavy hearts that the family of Elizabeth “Betsy” Anne Pound, wife of the late Donald Pound, announces her peaceful passing, which occurred on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Born in Cardigan, PEI, Betsy was the daughter of the late Earl and Barbara MacDonald. In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by her son Duane Pound, brother Charlie MacDonald and sister Mary Trainor.
She is survived by her loving children Paul Pound (Teresa), Barb Goss (Robin), Scott Pound (Glenys Ellis) and Glenn Pound; siblings Ronnie MacDonald (Elaine), Herbie MacDonald, Nora MacDonald (Joe), Margaret Fogarty (late Joe) and Louise MacDonald; cherished grandchildren Matthew Pound, Luke Pound (Allie Brown), Katie Pound, Mallory Goss (Sarah Mosher), Benjamin Goss, Jayne Goss, Euan Pound, Tomas Pound, and many nieces and nephews.
Betsy was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. As a teenager, she attended boarding school at Notre Dame and then began a career as a teacher, working in a one room schoolhouse in Roseneath and later in Calgary. She met and married Donnie in Toronto and soon moved back to PEI where Betsy stayed home to raise their children. For many years, she operated a bustling in-home daycare. A life-long nurturer of young people, she was a deeply respected elder to a large extended family and a mom to many. In her later years, Betsy became an avid gym-goer and loved spending time with family. She was content with a quiet life: watching curling, doing crossword puzzles, and going out for coffee with her friends and lunch dates with her siblings.
Resting at Belvedere Funeral Home, with visitation on Friday, September 15 from 4-7 p.m. Her funeral service will be held at Belvedere Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, September 16 at 11 a.m. Donations in memory of Betsy may be made to the Upper Room Food Bank or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
