After a long illness, It is with sad hearts that we said good-bye to our wife, mother, nannie, sister on January 18, 2026, supported by many, she left her physical body and is now with her Lord and Saviour and those who have gone before her. Born in Glenwood, Prince Edward Island on October 5, 1940 she was the daughter of the late Irma (MacIsaac) and Wyman Gorrill of Glenwood PEI. Jean married the love of her life Rev. Dewis Joseph Rector in 1959 (67 years married).
Jean had the gift of hospitality and took her role as the pastor’s wife seriously. In addition to being a loving mother to her four children, she had an open door for many children from foster children to guests of the church, there was always room for one, two or a dozen more. Jean was well known for her sewing, baking and hairdressing skills and she did those things with much love and care. Mentoring and sharing with other ladies from the church was an experience she treasured throughout her life. She was very grateful for the many friendships she developed over the years. We were so very grateful to all those friends who visited her over the years especially the last year at Whisperwood.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, son Dewis (Susan) Rector, daughters Heather (Brian) Weatherbee, and Shelley Rector. Grandchildren Brianne (Mitch) Perry, Brad Weatherbee, Hilary (Rob) Pollard, Erica Rector, Ben (Samie) Rector. Sister Harriett (Claire) McNeil, brothers Keith (Betty), Charles, Richard (Mae) and Wayne Gorrill and brother-in-law Sterling McLellan. Great grandchildren Jackson, Nova, Caleb, Ryker and Aurora. Her long-time family of the heart Elizabeth (Bob) Hickman, Dickens and Justine and their children Amelia, Amanda and Aiden and heart Sister Betty Frizzell. There are too many other heart family members that are part of Jean’s world and, thus a part of our family, for us to mention here – you know who you are and you know that you were and are very loved by her and us.
Predeceased by her parents Wyman and Irma Gorril, daughter Betty, great grandson Carter, parents-in-law Dewis and Ruth Rector, sisters-in-law Monica McLellan, Sherla and Debbie Gorrill.
The family would like to thank NP Nick VanKampen and the staff at the Cornwall Health Clinic, the staff at the QEH Emergency Department and Unit #1 and the staff at Whisperwood Villa for the exceptional care she has been provided over these last few years.
Donations may be made to Big Lake Nazarene Camp, Cornerstone Baptist Church Building Fund, Gideons, Muscular Dystrophy Canada, or a charity of your choice.
