The death occurred peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family, of Gary Douglas MacLeod, age 77, on Monday, February 3, 2025 at the Provincial Palliative Care Centre. Gary will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years, Gloria (nee Richards).
He was truly loved for his great sense of humor and captivating stories. Growing up in the village of Murray River, PEI, he and his wife moved to Loyalist Road in 1972, where they raised their two children.
Gary dedicated his working life as a digger operator and truck driver for FA Tucker and H Line Enterprises. He also drove trucks for Cavendish Farms and other local potato farmers. He cherished the outdoors during the summer months, taking immense pride in his large garden and in splitting and blocking wood to keep the house warm during winter. He particularly enjoyed clamming at the beach and getting out lobster fishing with a friend or family member.
Gary was born on December 27, 1947 to the late Fredrick and Annie (nee Moore) MacLeod.
He will be dearly missed by his loving children, Nancy MacPhail (Robby) and Jeremy.
He leaves behind his adored grandchildren, Hannah MacLeod and Carter MacPhail.
Gary is survived by his siblings, Rankin (Joy), Marvin (Alba), Esther Penny, Florence MacTavish (Barry), Dorothy MacNeill (Everett), and brother-in-law Roland MacDonald. Fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Gary was predeceased by his siblings Betty MacDonald and an infant sister, brother-in-law Louis Penny, and infant grandson Benjamin MacPhail.
Our family genuinely appreciates the compassionate and loving care provided by his home care nurse Melanie and Dr. Nichols, the nurses at Same Day Services, as well as the doctors and nurses in Unit 8 and with the Palliative Care Center.
Resting at the Belvedere Funeral Home, with visitation on Friday, February 7 from 4-7 p.m.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. If so desired, please donate in Gary’s memory to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
