Gerald Gordon Matheson Obituary
It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of someone who was deeply loved and touched the lives of so many—my dear brother, Gerald Gordon Matheson. Gerald’s kindness, warmth, and presence left a lasting impact on all who knew him. He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered by his family, friends, and the many people whose lives he enriched.
Throughout his life, Gerald overcame many challenges with determination and courage. He worked hard to achieve milestones that others might have taken for granted, learning to walk, ride a bicycle, attend school, and operate a lawn mower. His perseverance and resilience were an inspiration to everyone who knew him, and he faced life’s obstacles with a strength that earned the admiration and respect of many.
I would also like to express my gratitude to Gene Roddenberry for creating Star Trek, a source of endless enjoyment and fascination for Gerald. I am equally thankful to the inventors and developers of the DVD player which brought him countless hours of entertainment, comfort and happiness. Through these creations, Gerald was able to explore new worlds, follow beloved adventures and experience many moments of joy throughout his life.
For those of us who experienced his drooly hugs, exuberant greetings, and animated excitement during movies, those memories will remain forever etched in our hearts. Gerald had a unique way of expressing his joy and affection and his enthusiasm was contagious. Whether he was welcoming family and friends or becoming completely immersed in one of his favorite films, he brought a special energy to every moment. Those who knew and loved him will always remember the happiness he shared so freely and the smiles he brought to our faces.
I would also like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the staff of QEH Unit 3, the Emergency Unit and the Garden Home for the wonderful care, compassion and kindness they showed Gerald. Their dedication and support meant a great deal to him and I am deeply grateful for all they did.
Gerald was predeceased by his parents, William and Audrey Matheson (née Keddy) of Cornwall, as well as his grandparents and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He will be deeply missed by his siblings, Michael and Judy, and his nephew, Tristan, along with all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
There will be no viewing or funeral service. Gerald will be remembered privately by those who loved him and his memory will live on in the hearts of family and friends.
I take comfort in knowing that Gerald is once again in the loving arms of his mother, Audrey, who never left his side until the day she left this earth. Their bond was unbreakable and it brings peace to know they are now reunited.
I will always love you, my G-Man.
— Michael
