Heather MacKenzie Obituary

The death occurred at the Provincial Palliative Care Centre on January 11th of Heather MacKenzie, daughter of Charles and Blanche MacKenzie of Westmoreland, PEI.

Heather leaves to mourn her loving partner Darrell J. Poulton and her cherished children, Michelle Sencabaugh (Chuck Borgh), JoAnne Sencabaugh (John Dixon) and Corey MacKenzie.

Siblings David (Marjorie), Mary (Blaine), Gene (Julie-deceased) and Linda (Jeremy). Previously deceased by Alan (Janet).

Heather enjoyed a forty year career in the provincial and private sector as a Family Support Worker as well as a Resident Care Worker. She also graduated from UPEI in 2015 with a Sociology degree with Honours.

Heather retired from her career and studies in 2018 to enjoy hiking beaches and trails, gardening, photography, kayaking, harness racing, and her motorcycle family, with whom she shared many moments of laughter and support.

Of all her passions, Heather’s greatest love and joy were her partner and children and watching their accomplishments over the years.

Heather would like to express her gratitude to the many outstanding and supportive individuals during this journey, including those from Island EMS, the ER, the Cancer Treatment Centre, the QEH and the Palliative Care Centre, who all ensured that Heather’s quality of life was maintained to her final moments. Many thanks also for their care not only to Heather but to the extended family as well.

A memorial bench has been placed in the Victoria Provincial Day Park (PEI) where one can sit and enjoy a place that was special to Heather. As you sit and enjoy the view, please remember Heather’s belief that it really does take a village to raise a child!

A celebration of life will be held at the Brackley Community Centre (14 Union Road, Charlottetown) on Friday January 19th from 4-7 p.m. following a private family interment at South Granville Presbyterian Church Cemetery where Heather was an active member.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
