James MacAulay Obituary

It is with heavy hearts the family of James “Jim” Clement MacAulay, loving husband of Lauretta (MacDonald) MacAulay, announces his passing which occurred, on Friday, July 21, 2023 (just two days short of his 83rd birthday), at the Souris Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Midgell, PE on July 23, 1940, he was the son of the late Archibald and Bernadette (MacDonald) MacAulay. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Alex MacAulay, and brothers-in-law, Gerard Peters and Dunstan MacDonald.

In addition to his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, he is survived by his children Marion Sperdakes (Robert), Ronnie MacAulay (Elizabeth), Andrew “Andy” MacAulay (Loretta Coady MacAulay) and Mary Catherine Compton (Stephen); grandchildren Nicholas (Kathleen), Jack, Rachel, Jamie, Ryan, Lauren, Spencer and Gemma; great grandchildren Cecilia and Nash; siblings Lawrence MacAulay (Frances), Mary Palmer (Norbert) and Gloria Peters; sisters-in-law Clare-Anne MacAulay and Barbara Anne Beades (Nicky); brother-in-law Francis MacDonald (Joanne); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim spent most of his career as Principal of Morell Regional High School and retired from the Eastern School District Board Office. He was a proud Alumnus of St. Dunstan’s University Class of 1962 and was a lifelong learner. In 1967 he received his Bachelor of Education and in 1978 he received his Masters of School Administration from St. Francis Xavier University. Jim received an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws from UPEI in 2014.

He was very much involved in his community and received numerous honours and awards for his volunteer work, including the Order of PEI.

Jim was a faithful and devoted member of St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church. He valued his Christian faith, family and relationships with the many people with whom he interacted, being very willing to share with others from his bountiful and well-tended garden.

The family very much appreciates the care and concern Jim received at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and the Souris Hospital.
