With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend who left us on Friday, June 27th, 2025, at the age of 83. True to his generous spirit and love of bringing people together, he spent his final evening doing what he loved most—hosting and sharing laughter with friends. We are deeply comforted knowing his last moments were filled with joy, and we are also grateful that he is now reunited with his beloved wife, Ruth.
Ozzie will be fondly remembered for his kindness, generous spirit, and warm, social nature. He was the beloved husband of 53 years to the late Ruth MacKinnon (Hansen) and a devoted father to Darren (Lacey) and Andy (Mary Jane). Nothing brought him more joy than being a proud grandfather to Madison (Wyatt), Nolan, Hudson, and Marshall. He was a dear brother to Marjorie Johnson, Norma Kelly, Linda MacLennan (Wayne), Joe MacKinnon (Leah), and Mary MacKinnon-Walsh (Paul); a cherished brother-in-law to Ann Mitchell, and Brenda Corbett (Donnie). Ozzie is also lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Ozzie was predeceased by his parents Howard and Beatrice (MacLellan) MacKinnon ; beloved wife, Ruth; his brother, Earl MacKinnon (Inez); his sisters-in-law, Jessie MacFadyen and Joan Smith (Gerald); his brothers-in-law, Preston Mitchell, Neil MacFadyen, Keir Johnson, and Martin Kelly; his cherished niece, Cindy; and his dear nephews, Ryan and Chris.
Ozzie devoted himself wholeheartedly to volunteering and nurturing a strong community spirit, serving as a Past President and Life Member of the Charlottetown Kinsmen Club and Charlottetown K-40, and giving his time generously to organizations such as Meals on Wheels, the Knights of Columbus, St. Pius X Church, the Sherwood Parkdale Junior A and B hockey teams, among others.
Up until his final days, he continued to bring people together—actively recruiting residents for events at The Mount (and generously providing many of the prizes), hosting weekly gatherings with friends, and taking an active role in committee meetings. His unwavering spirit of service and genuine joy in connecting with others left a lasting and profound impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
The family extends a heartfelt thank-you to the staff at The Mount for their exceptional care and compassion throughout Ozzie’s final years. Your kindness and support meant so much to all of us.
Visitation will be held at Belvedere Funeral Home on Monday, July 7, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.
