Surrounded by her children, Joanne passed peacefully at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on January 12th after a short battle with cancer at the age of 65. Joanne was born on December 2nd, 1959 to Alan (deceased) Hodgins and Patricia (nee Quail) Hodgins. She will be dearly missed by her loving children, Rhea Hurnik (Jarett Richardson) and Rudi Hurnik (Melody Alacan). She leaves behind her adored grandson, Rhett Richardson. Joanne is survived by her brothers Grant (Tina) Hodgins and Dene (Sheri) Hodgins.
Joanne worked as an itinerant teacher for the blind and visually impaired across the island. She loved spending time outdoors, biking and kayaking in the summer and snowshoeing in the winter and had a great appreciation of native birds and plants of the island.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Belvedere Funeral Home where all are invited to attend a celebration of Joanne’s life at the Belvedere Funeral Home Reception Centre on Saturday, January 18 from 2 to 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Joanne may be made to the MacPhail Wood Ecological Forestry Project at MacPhail Wood Ecological Forestry Project
