John Robinson Obituary

Arthur “John” Robinson, C.M., age 80, of Charlottetown passed away on November 1, 2023, five years after a terminal diagnosis of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis.

John was born in Pictou, NS, to the late Edith (Leard) & Eric Robinson.  He grew up with his brother, the late Alan, on the family farm in Augustine Cove.    After attending PWC, he graduated from UNB with a BSc. in Chemical Engineering and returned to the family farm business with his wife, Hazel (Matchett).  

John & Hazel raised their family in North Tryon, where he was active in his church and the potato industry. Upon retirement, they moved to Charlottetown where John dedicated over 20 years of volunteer service with the Community Foundation of PEI.  

John & Hazel were honoured to be invested into the Order of Canada at a ceremony in PEI with Governor General Mary Simon in 2022.   They were touched by the Order’s motto: They desire a better country.  

John is survived by his wife of 60 years, Hazel, their children Deborah (Mike) Annear, Alan, and Mary (Mike Roberts); nine grandchildren: Dillon (Olivia and baby Lena) Wight, Adam (Kyla) Wight, Nevan Annear-Smith, Cora Annear; Jack, William & Peter Robinson; John & Catherine Roberts.  

John is also survived by sister-in-law Julia Robinson; brothers-in-law Wayne (Vicki) & Terry Matchett; by nieces Susan (Mike Johnston), Lori Robinson, Janna & Tara Matchett, & Amanda (Sean) Legassie; nephews Andrew Robinson (Sasha Mullally) & Tyler Matchett; cousins Edith & Joyce Crosby and Shawn Knights; special cousin Betty Toniello.  

Visitation will be Saturday, November 11 from 4-7:00 pm at Belvedere Funeral Home.  A Celebration of Life will take place at First Baptist Church, corner of Fitzroy and Prince Streets, Charlottetown, on Sunday, November 12 at 2 pm with reception to follow. This service will be livestreamed and you may view it by clicking on the link on First Baptist Church's Youtube Channel page located here First Baptist Church Youtube Channel Livestreams. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the John and Hazel Robinson Endowment Fund at the Community Foundation of PEI (visit https://www.cfpei.ca/robinson) or Tryon People’s Cemetery.
