Kendal Godkin Obituary

It is with the deepest sadness that the family of Kendal Heartz Godkin announces his peaceful passing at the Provincial Palliative Care Centre on Friday, September 27th,2024, at the age of 86 years.

Kendal was born on April 24, 1938, to the late Heartz and Irene (nee Wells) Godkin.

Kendal will be missed by his children, Steven (Nancy) and Nancy, their mother Elaine (Hansen) Godkin, his brothers, Robert of Ottawa, ON and Heartz (Della) of Charlottetown, PE; his sister-in-law Carlien Godkin of Canberra, Australia, his very special friend Carol Russell, and his grand pup Benson. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Al Godkin, his aunt, Roberta Godkin, and his sister-in-law Paddy Hanley-Godkin.

After completing school, Kendal worked up north for a few years before returning to PEI where he lived for the remainder of his life. He worked at his family’s jewelry store, H. Godkin Watch Repairing, for a while before embarking on a life-long career at Canada Post fulfilling many different roles along the way.

Kendal enjoyed life and had many passions. He played the organ for various churches and was an active member of the local Ukulele group volunteering his time to play at seniors homes and other locations. He loved slipping into his clown costume to entertain kids with his magic tricks and balloon making skills. He brought smiles to many kids and families over the years. He loved all animals and had a special touch for growing vegetable gardens and flowers. Last, but not least, he loved the hot sun on his face and fresh air in his lungs.

Kendal was a long time member of the Philae Shriners, the Masonic Lodge H&L Lodge #3, Summerside, and Saint John’s Lodge #1 in Charlottetown.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and all the staff at the Provincial Palliative Care for their excellent care given to their Dad. They brightened his day, made him laugh, and helped keep his spirits high even when the days were tough.

Kendal also enjoyed the community spirit of several special friends in his apartment building.  Many thanks to all those friends who kept him company, played cards, and watched over him.
