Kenneth (KEN) Alexander Gillis Obituary

Kenneth "Ken" Alexander Gillis of Charlottetown passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on June 7, 2024. Born on July 28, 1944, in Sydney, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late A. Wilfred and Kathleen (MacAulay) Gillis. Ken had a long and accomplished career with the Royal Bank of Canada and proudly served in all four Atlantic Provinces for 35 years, including as Area Manager of the RBC in PEI. Ken was a devoted community member who served as a Charlottetown City Councilor and a dedicated board member with numerous organizations including the College of Piping. Ken was a Mason and a Rotarian who portrayed "Service Above Self". He loved his community, golf, a good game of cards, and his cottage. But above all, he loved his family, which he considered his greatest accomplishment, and spent as much time with them as he could. His humour and wit never failed him.

Left with happy and cherished memories are his dear wife, Grace, of over thirty years, and five loving daughters, Kathleen, Karen (Phil), Colleen (Peter), Krista (Paul), and Melanie (Mark). He was a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren - Christopher, Chantal, Alexander, Matthew, Courtney, Ariana, Olivia, Caleb, and Sarah - who loved riding with him on his lawn tractor and getting ice cream with Grandpa. He also leaves behind four beautiful great-grandchildren Aubree, Alaia, Maverick and Thomas. Ken was a dedicated friend to many whom he loved like family.

Ken was predeceased by his brothers Donald, Lorne and Gordon and his parents-in-law Launce and Evelyn Shirley. He is survived by his brothers David and Wilfred (Bev) of Edmonton and sisters-in-law Wanda of Sydney and Cherie of Dartmouth.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the QEH Foundation or a charity of your choice. Blood donations to Canadian Blood Services also appreciated.
