Layton Burgoyne

Surrounded by the love of his family, Layton Burgoyne of Stratford (formerly Cornwall and Grahams Road) passed away peacefully on June 24, 2026, at the age of 94. Born on the Burgoyne Family farm in New London on January 19, 1932, to John R. and Annie (Somers) Burgoyne.

Predeceased by his loving wife of 70 Years, Jean (Williams) Burgoyne. Loving and supportive father of Joyce Maloney (Mike), Erroll Burgoyne, deceased (Sandra), Barbara Coupland deceased (Graham, deceased), Ross Burgoyne (Amy), Brenda Vanderveen (George), Glenda Burgoyne-Miller (Greg), Heather Chapman (Bob), and adored cat, Isabelle.

Proud Poppy to Layton Jr., Stephen (Laura), Brittany (Chad), Courtney (Mitchell), Kendra (Devon), Mallory, Robert, Christopher (Leshem), Abby, and Ella. Special Great Poppy to Patrick, Aaron, Kylie, Wyatt, Rhett, Eli Layton, and Mila. Layton also filled the role of Step-Poppy and Step-Great Poppy. He loved all kids and always made time for the children in his life.

On the family farm in Grahams Road, Layton and Jean brought their seven children into the world. They moved to Cornwall in 1971. Layton, Jean, Erroll & Ross founded Burgoyne Construction Ltd. in 1978. They worked diligently to establish the successful family business that Burgoyne Construction Ltd. is today.

Layton will always be remembered for his unwavering energy and work ethic. He was a generous, kind-hearted, quiet soul who was always willing to help those in need. He took immense pride in everything he built with his hands, leaving behind a legacy of structures and homes on the Island that were built to last. Even in retirement, Layton never sat idle. He loved spending time with his family, making puzzles, bird watching, and fussing over “his little girl” (Isabelle).

Survived by his siblings Willis Burgoyne, Jaret Burgoyne (Josilin), Irma Nisbet (Danny), Lloyd Burgoyne, Lorne Burgoyne (Audrey), Wendell Burgoyne (Debra), Brother-in-law Gordon Toombs, and numerous nieces and nephews on the Burgoyne side. Predeceased by his parents, siblings Ellis Burgoyne (Ruth), Horace Burgoyne (Ruby), Elaine Burgoyne (Raymond), Mildred Heater, and Wilna Toombs.

The Burgoyne Family would like to thank his caregivers, the PEI Home Care Team and the PEI Palliative Team for their support, compassion, and for fulfilling his wish to remain at home.

Resting at the Belvedere Funeral Home. No visitation by personal request. Interment in the New London Cemetery at a later date.
