With much sorrow we announce the passing of Linda Ann Schneider (Fountain), aged 78, who died in hospital of a longtime illness on September 25, 2025.
Predeceased by her parents Charles & Pelma (Harrison) Fountain, and by her siblings Ken, Jim (Helen), Tom (Anna Margaret), George “Ted” (Mary), Peter (Janet) and Mary Snow (Nelson), Linda is survived by her siblings Don (Jane), Grace Stewart (Harvey), Alice Woodhouse (Robert), Joyce Morrell (Blackie), Vera Grills (Richard), Dorris Willard (Gerald), and Donna Revell (Steve), as well as her children and many nieces & nephews.
Born the 13th of 15 children in Guelph, Ontario, Linda married David Schneider in 1968. Together they raised four children, Carol Schneider (Sean), Melanie Schneider-MacDonald (Gordon), Erica Schneider (Jason) and Harlan Schneider (Monica). Linda enjoyed making things with and for her grandchildren Alexis MacDonald, Elsa McQuaid and Toby Schneider.
Serving on the boards of Block Parents, daycare centers, St. Vincent de Paul and the Seniors Active Living Centre over the years, Linda loved creating through photography, sewing, fibre arts, cooking and gardening. A lively raconteur and tireless conversationalist, she helped raise an eclectic array of pets and was an avid follower of politics who enjoyed kicking butt at poker and Scrabble.
Wanting to experience Canada, Linda lived from coast to coast: in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island with visits to many other places.
Linda spent her professional life in service of others from coffee to groceries to health care. Polycythemia vera ended her life, but she fought that disease to the end; her bravery and strength were truly inspirational to those who love her.
There will be no funeral or wake in accordance with Linda’s wishes, but a remembrance gathering celebrating her life will be held at a future date. The family encourages donations in Linda’s memory to the MPN Research Foundation (https://mpnresearchfoundation.org/). The foundation seeks new treatments for blood cancers collectively known as myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs), including polycythemia vera.
