The death occurred peacefully at the QEH on Saturday, December 13, 2025, of F/L Lloyd Allison Gates of Charlottetown, at the age of 101 years. He is survived by his wife, Mary (nee Wood); His sister, Margaret “Margie” Thompson; his children, Paula Gates, Elizabeth “Beth” Peters (Floyd) and David Gates; his step-children, Shawn Robinson (Lesa), Chris Robinson (Eliza), Paul Robinson (Beth); his grandchildren, Anjela Garnier, Sarah Garnier, Michael Peters, Nicole Peters and Rebecca “Becky” Gates; his step-grandchildren, Liam Robinson, Nora Robinson, Sarah Robinson, Laura Robinson, John Robinson and Susan Robinson: his great-grandchildren, Hope Mosher, Elizabeth “Lizzie” Peters and Lily Costain as well as many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents, Frederick Adelard and Edith Winnifred (nee Jenkins) Gates; his siblings, Frederick Robert Leigh (Bob) and Harold Franklin Gates; his grandson, Donald Peters; his nephew, Hal Gates, and his niece, Susan Thompson.
Lloyd is resting at Belvedere Funeral Home where a visitation will take place on Wednesday, December 17 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. followed directly by a funeral service in the funeral home chapel. After the funeral service, those in attendance are invited to a reception which will be held in the funeral home reception center.

Lloyd personally requested no flowers but rather for people to make donations in his memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Royal Canadian Legion.
