Louis (Richard) O'Brien Obituary

Richard passed away peacefully at the QEH Charlottetown with his loving wife Anne by his side. Predeceased by his parents Louis and Lorraine (Coffin) and his first wife Judith Worthern O’Brien. 

Father of Karin O'Brien and Alan O'Brien and grandfather of Robbie, Jarrett, Carter, Olivia and Reid. 

Stepfather to Steven, Ann Mariee Lawrence, and Claire-Louise.

Step Oupa to Cameron, Isai, Ivan, Aiden, Sarah, Kiara, and Juliet. 
Richard leaves to mourn are his siblings Gwendolyn (William) Reid and Wayne O’Brien, as well as many nieces, nephews, friends, and special friends, Norman and Edith MacLachlan and Rowan and Edith Clattenberg. 

Richard’s education began at Parkdale School followed by Prince of Wales College and the University of New Brunswick where he completed his electrical engineering degree. His career included the Royal Canadian Navy, Westine House Canada, Aramco, Lucent Saudi Arabia, Canadian Forces Bosnia, and engineering work in Sarnia, and Commissioners PEI. Richard and Anne travelled extensively to England, Europe, Canada, and South Africa. Besides his career, his main interest was sailing, including the building of two boats, teaching navigation at Fanshawe College, and running a boat charter in Dubai. To his family he was “Mr. Fixit,” as well as a gardener.

Special thanks to the Garden Home staff, QEH Emergency Room Dr. Hennessy, and Unit 7 for their wonderful care and making me feel at home.

Resting at Belvedere Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 14th at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Charlottetown. This service will be livestreamed, and you may view the service via the following links on the church’s YouTube page (Livestream - YouTube) or Facebook page (Livestream - Facebook). 

Interment will take place in Bay Fortune Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Richard may be made to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
