She was the daughter of the late Wilfred and Mary Furness (nee MacLeod), and sister and sister-in-law to the late Russ (Isabell) Furness (Guelph) and Lloyd (Kay) Furness (Vernon Bridge). Her siblings’ children are Ralph (Kathy) Furness (St John), the late John (Kathy) Furness (Vernon Bridge) and Gordon (Sharon) Furness (Vernon Bridge), Don (Jean) Furness (Guelph), Sheila Furness (Robin Barker, Toronto) and David Furness (Sharon Tawes, Guelph). Marion and Bill lived for 40 years in Calgary before returning to their Island roots. In retirement, Marion was involved in her community, with church, friends, and volunteering, reading with kids through Project LOVE at Westwood Primary School and guiding people through Government House, for which she was recognized by the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal. We thank the staff at The Mount for their exceptional care over her last years.
Visitation is on Monday, September 11th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and the funeral on September 12th at 11:00 a.m. both at Belvedere Funeral home. A live stream will be available, follow this link to join: LiveStream. Interment at Vernon River United Church Memorial Cemetery. Family flowers only. In lieu, Marion invites people to give to their charity of choice or “better still - think of a person you have not been in contact with for some time - and call them.” She was indeed a remarkable friend to many.
