Marjorie MacLauchlan Obituary

Marjorie E. (Deacon) MacLauchlan, July 2, 1931 to June 15, 2024

After a life well and fully lived, Marjorie E. MacLauchlan of Stanhope passed away peacefully at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on June 15, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Predeceased by her husband and partner Harry MacLauchlan (2002), Marjorie was the proud mother of Roger (Lorraine), Brenda (Ruth Blaser), Wade (Duncan McIntosh), Lorna (John MacDougall) and Kathryn (Mark Howe).

Marjorie loved and was adored by her grandchildren: Jennifer (Lance) LaVie, Jessica (Brent) MacDonald, Bradley (Dana Dillon) MacLauchlan, Martha (Dustin) Jewell, Lauchlan (Jill MacIsaac) MacDougall, John Arch (Karen Murphy) MacDougall, Isabel (Dayan Gonzalez) MacDougall, Sadie (Nick Kasting) Howe and Sam Howe, and special family member Rebekah Lindenbach. She took endless delight in her fifteen great-grandchildren: Lakelan, Alexis and Charles LaVie; Stella and Lila MacDonald; Mary-Ella, Lucy and Robert Jewell; Will and Addison MacDougall; Archer, Austin and Mae MacDougall; and Rowan and Edith Gonzalez.

Marjorie grew up in North Wiltshire, the daughter of Bruce and Sadie (MacPherson) Deacon. She is survived by sisters-in-law Phyllis Deacon, Wanda Mallett, Marguerite Ellis and Joyce Skinner, and a multitude of nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her siblings Emerson (Jean), Lillian (Harry Ling), Victor (Queenie), Joyce (Alvin MacLauchlan), Sterling and Wilma (Alton Russell); and by her MacLauchlan in-laws: Walter (Violet), Edith (Gregor) MacCallum, Malcolm (Erma), Gideon (Verna), Beth (Bruce) Ellis, Leslie (Winnifred), Walter Mallett, Ken Ellis and John Skinner.

Marjorie played a quiet and essential role in numerous ventures with her husband Harry, while keeping family and community at the centre of her life. She was an accomplished gardener and genealogist, researching various family lines and finding joy in the company and stories of relatives near and far. Marjorie was a charter member of the Stanhope Historical Society and a key contributor to the award-winning Stanhope: Sands of Time as a member of the Stanhope Women’s Institute history committee. She was a longtime choir and U.C.W. member and Sunday School teacher at Stanhope United Church. Above all, Marjorie was a loyal and gracious neighbour and family member who enjoyed life and counted her blessings.

Marjorie deeply appreciated the friendship and expert attention of a dedicated team of caregiver companions, and in recent days the doctors, nurses and health care workers at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Marjorie’s memory may be made to the QEH Foundation, West Covehead Cemetery or a charity of your choice.
