Mary Kathleen (O’Connell) Wisener of Charlottetown passed away peacefully and surrounded by family at the QE Hospital on December 26, 2024 at the age of 84 years old, after a brief illness. She was the daughter of the late William and Kathleen (Doyle) O’Connell and was born in Frenchfort. She was a graduate of Notre Dame Academy, and received a teacher’s diploma from Prince of Wales College and taught in a one room school in Pleasant Grove, and in Indian River.
In 1961, Mary met her husband, Paul, at a dance in York and were married for 62 years. They lived in Watervale where they were the owners of Wisener‘s Mills and Mary was an integral part of all aspects of the business, especially administration. Mary and Paul had five children adding to an already large workload for Mary. However, she excelled at planning and organization and was a loving and devoted mother. Mary was also active in her community and a volunteer for school events, the Home and School association, and a Catholic Women’s League member for 62 years.
Mary leaves behind her husband, Paul, her children Kevin of Ottawa, David (Sharon) of Brudenell, Marlene of Charlottetown, Doreen (Dr. Derek Clarke) of Kentucky and Marie of Charlottetown. Grandchildren: Marissa (Evan) Nobles, Laura (Ben Dietze) Wisener, Jordan Wisener, Brandon (Joanna) Clarke, Lauren (Rob Bowman) Clarke and Kathleen Clarke, Marty, Mathias, and Mitchell McComb, Nathan, Jessica, Jodie (Cori Irvine) Hood. Great grandchildren: Raya and Theo Nobles and Jonah Clarke.
Other family members include her brothers: Harry (Arlene) O’Connell, Gerry (Diane) O’Connell, Dr. Louis O’Connell. Sisters in law: Helen Burdach, Marjorie Hendricken, Eileen (Roger) Samson, Trudy Cameron, brother in law: Joe (Darlene) Wisener and many nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers: Maurice and Vincent O’Connell and sister, Patricia Larkin, as well as David(Buddy)Cameron, Louis Larkin, George and Noreen Miehm, Karl Burdach, and Frank Hendricken.
Visitation will take place at the Belvedere Funeral Home on Monday, December 30 from 5-8 p.m., with a funeral mass at St. Pius X Church on Tuesday, December 31 at 11:00 a.m. Private burial to take place in St. Joachim’s Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mary may be made to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation Medical Equipment Fund, the St Joachims Cemetery Fund or to a charity of choice.
