Mary Sylvia Poirier passed away peacefully, after a brief, fierce battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on November 24, 2025. Born in Miscouche, PEI, Sylvia was the daughter of John C. and Beatrice Poirier.
Sylvia lived her life with courage, compassion, and an unwavering devotion to the people she loved. She gave of herself freely and bravely, always putting others first, and she followed her dreams with determination and grace. Her life touched so many, and the loss felt by her passing is truly immeasurable. Her strength, kindness, and generous spirit leave a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Beth Mulligan, her son-in-law, Dave Burroughs, and her cherished grandsons, Jack and Benjamin. She is also lovingly remembered by their grandfather, Vince Mulligan. Sylvia leaves behind her sisters, Pat Garrity and Mary Wilson; her brother-in-law, Frank Garrity; and her much-loved nieces and nephews: Mike Garrity (Lucy), Kathy Hughes (Paul), Kelly Reynoldson (Steve), Chris Garrity (Lesley), Kristine Poirier (James Roper), Kelly Mulligan, and Alison MacDougall (Kenny).
Sylvia was predeceased by her parents, John C. and Beatrice Poirier; her brother, Adrian; her brother-in-law, Gary Wilson; and many loving aunts and uncles.
The family would like to thank Dr. Baglole, and the staff at Unit 3 for their exceptional care over the past 2 months.
Sylvia is resting at Belvedere Funeral Home. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, November 26, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Memorial service will be held at Belvedere Funeral Home on Thursday, November 27, 2025 at 11 a.m. The memorial service will be livestreamed at the following link: Remembering Sylvia.
