Matthew Moore Obituary

Matthew Raymond Moore, LLB, BSc Economics

Raymond Moore passed peacefully surrounded by loving family on October 13th.  He was described as larger than life by many, and a renaissance man by others because of his academic, sporting, musical and theatre accomplishments.

Raymond was born in Northern Ireland to Eleanor and Rev. Matthew Moore in 1941 and had two brothers, John, deceased, and Gordon.

He was very proud of his scholastic accomplishments.  As an adult, he was told by an administrator at his school that he had the top marks of any student she saw in 30 years at the school.   Raymond was a very intelligent man and had multiple degrees in economics and law.  Anyone who knew him knew how much he valued formal education. His sense of duty and hard work was reflected in his career as a Legislative Counsel in Northern Ireland, Bermuda and PEI

Raymond was a performer, from Northern Ireland to Bermuda and in the Charlottetown Festival in PEI. He performed in over 100 productions and took great joy in participating in several choirs.  He would have loved to have been an actor full time, and some thought he behaved as though he was!

Raymond married the love of his life, Valerie, in 1968.  They had many adventures together traveling the world, raising children Simon (Monique), Rebecca (Travis), and Gavin (Kristen) in Bermuda and PEI, and sharing in a love of music and theatre.  He found great pleasure spending time with his grandchildren at family suppers, and even being beaten in chess by his eldest grandchild at the summer family weekend.  He will be so missed by Tristan, Tori, Teddy, Mia, Evan and Alaina.

Raymond’s sporting accomplishments included igniting the sport of rugby in PEI in the 70’s.  This continued for over 45 years and he made many friends on the pitch.  A guide and mentor, he will always be remembered as the bearded man giving rugby advice to young rugby players across PEI. He would tell everyone that he got far more out of rugby than he gave.

All are invited to wear colourful clothing to Raymond’s final production on Friday, October 20th at 3pm at the Kirk of St. James.  Reception to follow.  Grateful thanks for the loving care provided by all medical professionals. Donations are appreciated in Raymond’s memory to the QEH Foundation (Palliative Care Support).
