The death occurred at the Atlantic Baptist Nursing Home on Saturday, May 17th, 2025, of Mildred (Millie) Ella Olmstead (nee Taylor), originally from St. Peter’s Island, PE age 96, with her loving daughter Darla (Shane Dowling) by her side. Predeceased by her loving husband, Carl Olmstead. Millie will also be missed by step-grandchildren, Shane Jr. (Suzie), Jami-Ellen (Rick), Stephen (Christine); step-great-grandchildren, Cam, Sam, and Luke; her brother, Lloyd Taylor; sisters-in-law, Ruth Olmstead (Burlington, ON), Joan Olmstead (Ottawa, ON), Beverley Ladurantaye (Perth, ON), and Maureen Scholar (Rick Waugh); brothers-in-law, Ron Code (Wasaga Beach, ON) and Dale Fawthrop (Jean) (Amherst, NS); as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her parents, Dan and Maude Taylor; her parents-in-law, Cecil and Lillian Olmstead; her siblings, Madden (Gladys) Taylor, Bill (Olive) Taylor, Sarah (Wilfred) MacEachern, Anne Sturmey, Reg (Viola) Taylor, Roy (Sadie) Taylor, Eva (Ted) MacArthur, Katie (Ernest) Prest, and Marium in infancy. Predeceased by sister-in-law, June Taylor.
Millie was a force of nature-full of the devil in the best possible way. Her wit was as sharp as her spirit was fierce. She was feisty, funny and endlessly bold. Her presence will be greatly missed.
Resting at Belvedere Funeral Home, Charlottetown, from where a funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, May 21st at 10:00am. The funeral service will be livestreamed via the following link Livestream. If you experience difficulty accessing the livestream, please call 1-877-895-2739. Interment will follow the service in New Dominion Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the PEI Humane Society.
