With sorrow, but admiration for a life well-lived, the family of Myron Alexander Matheson announces his sudden and peaceful passing, which occurred at the Rosewood Residence, Hunter River, PE. Born in Breadalbane, PE on November 28, 1931, he was the son of the late Cuyler and Irene (Newson) Matheson. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Doreen Elizabeth (Howatt) Matheson, sister Catherine McNutt, brother-in-law Harold Nicholson and special friend Martha MacDonald.
He is survived by his children Suzanne Matheson (Alex McKay) and Scott Matheson (Laurie); grandchildren Elspeth Matheson McKay, Callum Matheson McKay, Julia Matheson, Caitlin Matheson, Cuyler Matheson and Olivia Matheson (Angus Holzbeerger); sisters Carol Weeks (Robert) and Dorothy Nicholson, brother-in law Paul McNutt; sisters-in-law Heather MacPhee MacDonald and Jessie MacPhail; the family of Martha MacDonald, and numerous, much-loved nieces and nephews.
Myron had a long, rich career with the Canadian National Railway, starting out as a station agent and telegrapher on PEI and moving across the country to take up posts in labour relations and human resources. He completed a B.A. in English Literature at UPEI after retirement and carried his love of learning and story-telling with him to the end. He was active in the CN Pensioner’s Society and was himself a repository of railway history. Myron was an avid golfer and enjoyed travelling to Ontario and Alberta to spend time with his family. His curiosity, great kindliness and sense of humour never dimmed.
Resting at Belvedere Funeral Home, with visitation on Tuesday, June 2 from 4-7 p.m. His funeral service will be held from the Sherwood Church of Christ on Wednesday, June 3 at 10:30 and followed by a reception in the church hall. Sherwood Christian Church will livestream the funeral service via their YouTube Page here Remembering Myron. Interment will take place in the North Tryon Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
