Norma Murray Obituary

It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of Norma Eileen (Scott) Murray, born in Kinross, PEI on March 14, 1939, to Eric and Catherine (Gillis) Scott.

Norma will be lovingly remembered by her children Cheryl Diotte (Blake), Sussex, NB; Darlene MacDonald (Leonard), Calgary, AB; Debra MacDonald (Cameron), Stratford, PEI and Brian Murray (Norma Lea), Pownal, PEI. She leaves behind nine adored grandchildren, Bradley Diotte (Lacey), Julianna Diotte (Nathan), Brett MacDonald (Courtney), Colin MacDonald (Natalie), Tanner Ings (Mary), Cory Ings (Katelynn), Brandon Ings, Tristan Ings (Shelby), Lexie Murray, and eight great- grandchildren, Luke and Kori Diotte, Millie and David Ings, Ava, Abel and Xander Ings, and Dean Ings.

Norma was predeceased by her husband, James (Allie) Murray in 2016. Also predeceased by her parents and brothers, Ivan and Merrill.

Norma spent her childhood in the rural community of Grandview, PEI. In 1957, she married the love of her life, Allie Murray. They moved to Toronto for a short period of time, but within 6 months realized, that city life was not for them. After their return to PEI, Norma worked at the Bank of Nova Scotia until they started their family, with the birth of Cheryl in 1959. Darlene, Debra, and Brian followed during the next 7 years. Once her children were grown, she worked side by side with her husband and their business partners at M&M Trucking until their retirement in 2006.

In 1961, they built their first home in Cross Roads, where they lived for 27 years, before moving to their dream home in Keppoch, PEI. Norma was happiest to be at home cooking, cleaning her house, mowing the lawn, tending to her flowers, esp. her roses, and admiring her view of the Charlottetown Harbour.

Norma will be remembered for her kindness, her soft-spoken manner, her beautiful smile, and her unwavering love for her family. She was a pillar of strength and resilience throughout her life, but especially during the past year in dealing with her illness.  Norma will be deeply missed, forever remembered and always loved.

Visitation will take place at Belvedere Funeral Home on Thursday, May 28th from 4-7 PM. The funeral service will take place in the Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, May 29th at 3 PM. Interment to follow in St. Andrews United Church Cemetery, Vernon River.  The funeral service will be livestreamed and may be accessed via the following link Remembering Norma.
