Pamela “Pam” or “Babs” Cox (O’Shea), 63, of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island passed away on August 6, 2023, after a brief illness with her adoring family by her side.
Born July 27, 1960, in Newcastle, New Brunswick, she was the daughter of the late Cornelius and Noreen (Burns) O’Shea.
Pam devoted herself to her family and was a stay-at-home mum for the majority of her life, instrumental in the upbringing of her daughters, instilling in them strength, compassion, and a joy for life. She did this not out of obligation, but because of who she was. She was thrilled to be a central figure in the lives of her daughters, and anyone who knew them knew that they regarded her with the utmost love, respect, and adoration, and that’s all that ever mattered to her. On top of that, she always ensured that every child who crossed her threshold was safe, healthy, and happy.
Possessing a passion for cooking and baking, Pam’s butter tarts, Christmas treats, and snacks were sought after and looked forward to by friends and family. No party or gathering was complete without something from Pam’s kitchen. Marriages were tested over the amount of butter tarts available, and friendships forged over baked nacho dip. Anyone who had the privilege to know Pam and sample her creations undoubtedly has a favourite that they will always remember. Her recipes will be replicated, but never duplicated.
Pam is survived by the love of her life, and best friend of 44 years, Ian Cox, and daughters Megan (Bradley) Cox-Melanson and Kirsten, both of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. She is also survived by siblings Judith, Karen, Eleanor, Patricia, Michael, Daniel, and Sean, as well as her siblings by marriage, Frankie (Brian), James (Patricia), and David (Margaret), and a multitude of nieces and nephews. Aside from her parents, Pam was predeceased by her brother, Terrance.
Ian and the girls would like to extend their most profound gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Mireille Lecours and all of the nurses, social workers, administrative staff and everyone else at the Prince Edward Island Provincial Palliative Care Centre. The comfort and care that they all provided Pam in her final days was unparalleled. They made her and the family feel like she was the only patient in their care, and the support they provided to Ian and the girls went above and beyond what was expected of them.
The family would also like to thank all of the doctors, nurses, and staff in Unit 1 at Queen Elizabeth Hospital who made Pam’s stay as wonderful as it could be during her time there. And lastly, the family wants to extend a special thank you to nurse Bethany Quinn with Health PEI’s Home Care Program, for her knowledge, her care, her patience, and unwavering support of not only Pam, but Ian, Megan, and Kirsten as well.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers and in remembrance of Pam’s life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to the Prince Edward Island Provincial Palliative Care Centre, 93 Murchinson Lane, Charlottetown, PE C1A 0G3.
Arrangements are under the care of Belvedere Funeral Home.
