Paul Cudmore Obituary

Paul was a man of grace and determination. After a hockey accident left him with a spinal cord injury, he spent months relearning daily tasks. He fought hard to rebuild his life and regain both physical and financial independence.

His injury never defined his limits. Paul went on to roam the streets of Spain and Italy, living a life grounded in independence and curiosity. He was a singing, dancing, poker‑playing quadriplegic who used his wit, good looks, and charm to change how people perceived individuals with spinal cord injuries.

Through his work with CPA at both the provincial and national levels, Paul helped dispel stereotypes around education, sexuality, independence, and employment.

He was intelligent and resilient, true to his word—a son, brother, stepdad, dog dad, and an incredibly funny human being. Though he faced health challenges in recent years, Paul lived his life without limits and without excuses.

Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Ruby; his sister, Garlene; his special friend, Debbie Smith; and his stepchildren, Lisa, Jessica, and Marie-Andree. Paul formed friendships easily and shared a particularly special bond with Michael Bryanton and Emmett Doyle.

Predeceased by his father Freeman and special uncles Vern and Lou Oakes.

Even though Paul was unable to travel in the last few years he often spoke with gratitude about the special times he shared with his relatives from Ontario, particularly the Oakes and Ree families.

Arrangements have bee entrusted to Belvedere Funeral Home. At Paul’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Contributions in Paul’s memory can be made to Make A Wish.
