It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that the family of Phyllis Florence McKie (nee Townshend) of Charlottetown, formerly of Souris River, announce her peaceful passing at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on Monday, January 12, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Phyllis had just celebrated her 89th birthday.
Phyllis was a devoted and loving mother to Billy (Pam), Bonnie Robertson (Lester), and Debbie McKie (Joe MacPherson), and a cherished Nanny to Kory, Abby, and Katie, who brought her immense joy.
Phyllis is lovingly remembered by her siblings Betty Jay, David Townshend (Bonnie), and Lillian Burke (Wayne); her sisters-in-law Marilyn Townshend and Birdie McKie; and by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, David McKie; her parents, Leith and Letty (Coffin) Townshend; her parents-in-law, John and Florence (Taylor) McKie; and her siblings Shirley Coffin (Roy), Bill Townshend and brothers-in-law Guy Jay and Errol Wood. She was also predeceased by members of the McKie family, including Amy Dingwell (Joe), Janet Bevan (Gordon), Lois McKie, John McKie, Frances McKie, and Pearl Herring (Inman).
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional physicians and staff of Unit 1 at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, as well as the PEI Palliative Care staff, for their compassionate care during Phyllis’s stay. While too many to name individually, your kindness and dedication will always be remembered and deeply appreciated.
Resting at Belvedere Funeral Home with a visitation on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 from 1 – 2:45 pm with a funeral service to follow in the chapel at 3 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Phyllis’ name to Pat & the Elephant.
