It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Roland ‘John’ Whitaker who was a caring husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend. After a brief battle with cancer, he died peacefully on April 4, 2024 at the age of 82.
Born in Manchester, U.K., loving husband of Susan Whitaker; father to Matthew (Trudie), Lisa (Jim) and Rachel (Geoff); proud grandfather to Sofia, Anders, Erik and Alex. Dear brother to Val (Roger) and pre-deceased by sister Josephine and brother Peter.
With a brilliant mind and trained as a chemical engineer, John was a quiet and unassuming renaissance man who could turn his hand to almost anything. A painter, a photographer, a businessman, an environmentalist, and an intellect, he travelled the world over the years for business, pleasure and humanitarian work. He was well loved and will certainly be missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honour John could make a donation to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation www.qehfoundation.pe.ca/ways-to-give/one-time/ or plant a tree in his memory.
