Ruth MacNeill Obituary

The death occurred peacefully with her family by her side at the Provincial Palliative Care Centre on October 1, 2025, of Ruth MacNeill (nee Smethurst). 

She was predeceased by her loving husband Wayne MacNeill, beloved daughter Shannon, parents Marion and John Smethurst, sister Judy MacDonald (nee Smethurst), and brothers Alan, Tommy, Billy, and John Smethurst. Ruth was also predeceased by her sisters-in-law Neva Tremere, Donalda Kenny, and Inez Whetherby, as well as her brothers-in-law John MacDonald, Fred Weatherby and Lewis Ward.

Ruth is lovingly remembered by her stepdaughter Dawn Bradley (Robbie), grandson Cooper Bradley, nieces Katherine Morris (Ron, Cameron), Kim Creed (Robbie,Cole and Aleah), and special nephew Michael Morris. 

She also leaves behind Patsy Clow, Marilyn, Colleen, Cindy and Charlotte Taylor, who held a special place in her life.

Also remembered lovingly by the MacNeill and MacDonald families.

In accordance with Ruth’s wishes, there will be no wake or formal funeral service. A private committal service will take place on the morning of October 7th, 2025, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 am in the Reception Centre of Belvedere Funeral Home, where all are welcome to join the family for food and fellowship. Please refrain from wearing scents and perfumes.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Ruth’s memory may be made to Special Olympics PEI.
