It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear father and grandfather, Sanford Howard Lutley, originally from Halifax, Nova Scotia. Sanford passed away peacefully on Friday, October 31st, surrounded by his loving family.
Born to the late William and Katherine (née Hunt) Lutley of Fairview, Sanford was a devoted son, brother, father, and grandfather who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his two sons, Michael Lutley (Jennifer) and Sean Lutley, and his four beloved grandchildren, Kailey, William, Emily, and Amelia Lutley, who were the pride and joy of his life. He is also survived by his former wife, Judy Stanhope, and will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Sanford was predeceased by his sister Barbara Lee Catherine Marchand (née Lutley) and his brother William “Billie” Lutley.
A lifelong sports fan, Sanford could always be found cheering on his favorite teams, the Toronto Blue Jays, Buffalo Bills, and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. But more than his love of sports, Sanford will be remembered for his huge heart, kindness, and unwavering love for his family. He had a special way of making everyone feel valued and cared for, and his warmth and generosity will live on through all those whose lives he touched.
A celebration of Sanford’s life will be held at a determined location in Halifax in the coming months. Details will be shared online once finalized.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Sanford’s memory may be made to the Prince Edward Island Provincial Palliative Care Unit, in recognition of the unwavering compassion and support they provided to Sanford and his family over the past two months.
Sanford’s memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him most.
