With broken hearts and sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of our dear mother Susan Lynn (Bingley) Mahar, aged 68 years of Charlottetown. Mom has passed on from this world and has now entered the Kingdom of Heaven to be with her Lord and Saviour.
She was the devoted wife of Farley Mahar. Susan leaves behind her children, Kelly Leeco (Trevor), Jeff (Jill), Tyler (Audrey), James Howatt (Adriana) and stepson Jason Matheson. She was the cherished Nanny to Lakelin and Sullivan Leeco, Finnlay and Mila Mahar, and Ailey Howatt.
Susan will be missed by her siblings Dennis Bingley (Laurie), Carolyn Fitzpatrick, Sherry Ross (Bruce), Wade Bingley (Bonnie), Kim Harris (Evan), Morley Bingley (Shannon), sisters-in-law Theresa Bingley, Charlene Nickels, and Heather Cairns (Joey), and her brother-in-law Garth Mahar. She was predeceased by her parents Alfreda (Buell) Bingley and Robert Washington Bingley, in laws Odella and Vincent Mahar, brother Lawrence, sisters-in-law Myrna Bingley and Louise Mahar, and her brothers-in-law Paul Fitzpatrick and George Nickels.
Susan was loved by her many nieces and nephews, each one of them held a special place in her heart. To some, she was like a second Mom. She loved each and every one of them so much and would often reach out to them with baked goods and little gifts that came straight from her heart. She put 150% into everything she did during her lifetime. Whether it be baking her cakes for birthdays, anniversaries, or weddings, these were her masterpieces, and she would sometimes make a last-minute call to her sisters or best friends to help her with the finishing touches. Hosting wedding, birthday and baby showers were her specialty for all her family and extended family, she always went above and beyond to make it perfect.
Susan always looked forward to her yearly trips up to Ontario to spend time with her brothers and sisters, it was always a highlight for her, and she came home with many happy memories and definitely a few laughs.
Mom enjoyed her Friday nights at Bingo with Dad. The two of them together had great luck at winning and made many friendships over the years. Mom and Dad went on many cruises and vacations, enjoying their time together visiting the Caribbean.
Mom told each one of her children that they were her favorite and treated us as if we were. Til this day we still tell each other that “we” are Mom’s favorite. She was the best mother and friend, and we have lost a piece of our heart with her passing.
She took great pride and love in her grandchildren. She had an individual bond with all of them that made each one feel so special and loved.
Christmas was her favourite time of the year. All her children believed in Santa until they were into their teens because she made sure the magic was always there and even when they grew older. She kept the magic in Christmas for her children and for their families. One thing that all her family will remember her by was her annual Christmas party every year at her house. That party was always filled with amazing food, love and memories and she loved everyone being together.
Everyone that knew our mother would tell us the same thing, especially in these past few days, “Your mother was so special to everyone she met”. She had a way about her that would make everyone feel an instant connection and end up being friends for life.
A special thank you to all the wonderful kind and caring staff at the PEI Cancer Treatment Centre and Provincial Palliative Care Centre.
We, her family, will miss absolutely everything about her. We will cherish every day that we had with her. The great faith that she taught us and raised us with has led us to be the Christians that we are today and we have great love and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ because of her. Til we meet again Mom!
“See you there or in the air”
