It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Thelma Gillespie.
Born in Kingston, Prince Edward Island, Thelma was the daughter of the late Lorne and Edna (MacKenzie) Docherty.
Thelma was a devoted mother to Ryan (Melissa) Gillespie, Amanda (Tiago) Fernandes, and Mark (Tammy Burton) Gillespie, and a proud and deeply loving Nanny to Logan, Francisco, Anna, and Parker. Her grandchildren were the center of her world, and nothing made her happier than talking about their accomplishments, sharing stories about them, or spending time together. Whether in person or over FaceTime, Nanny always made sure her family stayed connected.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Doug Gillespie, whose loss she carried deeply.
Thelma will be remembered for her caring heart, strong will, and unwavering love for her family. She was stubborn in the way only the people we love most can be, but beneath that was endless devotion and generosity. She loved gathering people around her table, cooking for family and friends, and making sure no one ever left hungry. Her biscuits and fudge were favorites that became part of countless family memories and traditions.
She will also be remembered for her unmistakable laugh — one that could fill a room and instantly make others laugh along with her. It was a part of her that family and friends will carry with them forever.
Family meant everything to Thelma. She cherished visits, phone calls, family meals, and time spent together. Her home was a place of comfort, conversation, and love.
She is lovingly remembered by her sisters, Lorna (Bruce) Robertson, Arlene (Al) MacDonald, and Kathy (Bob) MacMillan, as well as many nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.
Thelma’s sudden passing leaves an immeasurable void in the lives of those who loved her. She will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always loved.
Visitation will take place at Belvedere Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 12, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Belvedere Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 13, at 10:30 a.m., with burial to follow at Clyde River Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Thelma may be made to the QEH Foundation or Harvest House.
