It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Velda Lillian Doucette, of Charlottetown, PEI, on Monday, May 5, 2025.
Born on Palmer Road, PEI on November 20, 1944, Velda was the daughter of the late Joseph and Edna Ellsworth.
We find solace in knowing that she is now reunited with her cherished husband and love of over 55 years, Gerard Doucette, who predeceased her in 2020.
Velda was the devoted mother of Darlene Kennedy (Kevin), Mike Doucette (Debby), Dawn Brown (Mike), and Sheri Taylor (Blaine), and a loving companion to her fur baby, Buddy.
She was a proud and treasured grandmother to Scott Matheson (Tawnya), Ashley Blacklaws (Jake), Brian Matheson, Tyler Brown (Ocean), Katelynn MacCallum (Evan), Nathan Brown (Shanie), Nick Doucette, Taylor Perry, Dylan Taylor, Sidney Doucette, and Devon Taylor. Her legacy lives on in her great-grandchildren: Bradley, Ethan, Lilly, Peyton, Kohl, Ethan, Elliot, Logan, Harper, and Scarlett.
She will be deeply missed by her siblings: Joseph Jr. Ellsworth, Mark Ellsworth (Audrey), Carl Ellsworth (Beverley), Marion Noye, Helen May (Reggie), Linda Handrahan (Henry Jr.), Gerard Ellsworth (Sylvia), Karen Ellsworth, and Shawn Ellsworth (Stacey). She was predeceased by her siblings Mary, Dorothy, and Ivan, brothers in law Norman, Freddy, and sister-in-law Bernie.
Velda embodied the heart and strength of our family, celebrated for her generous spirit, quick wit, and unwavering dedication. Her remarkable talents, from knitting cozy socks to crafting delicious corn chowder and fudge, to her flair for discovering hidden gems at garage sales and thrift shops, continue to inspire us. Her passion for bingo, which brought her such joy and a sense of community, will be fondly remembered.
Though she may be gone, her memory will be a lasting testament to the love and resilience she embodied, and her spirit will continue to uplift and guide us.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the exceptional care provided from Island EMS, first responders and close family friend Crystal Doyle.
Velda was a lover of animals, in lieu of flowers, donations to the PEI Humane society would be appreciated.
Care has been entrusted to the Belvedere Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday May 20th at 4pm in the funeral home chapel, with reception to follow.
