Victor MacFadyen Obituary

It is with respect and love, that the family of Victor MacFadyen announce his peaceful passing on May 10, 2025, at Prince Edward Home in Charlottetown.  Victor set sail for the final time, just a few weeks shy of his 93rd birthday.

Victor was born on May 23, 1932, at Canoe Cove, Prince Edward Island, to parents Malcolm and Mary Belle (MacKinnon) MacFadyen.  Victor was the third oldest in a close and loving family of seven siblings including Retus, Glen, Kaye, Sadie, Curtis and Everett.  The home was full of love, laughter, music, storytelling, adventures, and great home cooking.

Victor lived a life defined by dedication to service, and love for his family, friends and country. He proudly served in the Royal Canadian Navy and toured on the cruiser HMCS Ontario, the frigate HMCS Swansea, the minesweeper HMCS Wallaceburg, the destroyer HMCS Iroquois, and the minesweeper HMCS Ungava.  Victor was awarded the Bosun’s Whistle for top standing in his naval class.  The award was scheduled to be presented by Princess Elizabeth but unfortunately this could not be arranged at the time.

Victor was most proud of his active duty on the Tribal Class Destroyer HMCS Iroquois during the Korean War.   He was one of the few remaining Korean War Veterans.  Victor had great respect and compassion for comrades who served their country, often at great personal cost.  His knowledge of history and in particular military history was extensive.

Victor transferred to the Royal Canadian Air Force to be with his family.  His service included special duty assignment in France with NATO Forces Europe, and postings to CFB St. Hubert, Quebec; CFB Cold Lake, Alberta; and CFB Chatham, New Brunswick.   He made many wonderful lifelong friends from across the country.

Following his military career, Victor returned to “the Cove” and to the water.  Along with his brother Curtis, he fished his father’s lobster grounds.  He had set up woodworking shops on some of the airbases and utilized these skills to begin a new career as a carpenter, quickly becoming known for his fine finish carpentry.  Victor was active in various leadership roles in the community and made a host of friends both local and from around the world.

Left to mourn are his beloved children, Steven MacFadyen (Lynn), Susan Craig (Kevin Barnes) and Paula MacFadyen; cherished grandchildren Robert "Bobby" Craig (Jo-Ellen), Jason Craig (Jennifer Trowsdale), Matthew Craig (Lisa), and Natalie MacFadyen; and treasured great-grandchildren, Rachel Paynter (Campbell Mayne), Chloe Trowsdale, Liam Craig, Callum Craig, Thea Craig, Harrison Craig, and Keith Craig.

Mourning also are Victor’s beloved sister Kaye Morrison; and sisters in law Mary MacFadyen, Janet MacFadyen and Heather MacFadyen; his much loved nieces, nephews and cousins; his comrades; and a wealth of friends.

He is predeceased by his cherished siblings Retus MacFadyen (and first wife Doris), Glen MacFadyen (Martie), Sadie MacLean (Lorne), Curtis MacFadyen, Everett MacFadyen, and by his children’s mother, Rena Isabelle (MacNevin) MacFadyen and her sister Laura (Sandy) MacNeill.

Resting at Belvedere Funeral Home, visitation will be held on Monday, May 12, 2025 from 4-6pm; and with a Royal Canadian Legion Tribute Service, conducted by the Kingston Legion Branch 30,  to follow at 6:15pm.

The funeral service will be held at Canoe Cove Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 at 2pm.
