Wayne Joseph Peters

Surrounded by the love of his family, Wayne Joseph Peters of Charlottetown, and formerly of O’Leary, passed away peacefully on July 6th, 2026 at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Born in Summerside on January 30th,1947, Wayne was the beloved son of the late Edmond and Doris (Arsenault) Peters.

Wayne is survived by his best friend and loving wife of nearly 30 years, Joanne MacDonald. He was a proud and loving Dad to his two daughters, Michelle Bright (Rob), Fredericton, NB, and Nicole Peters (Shaun Lund), Charlottetown, PE. He held a special place in his heart as a doting Grampie to Luke Peters and Abby and Isabelle Bright, creating treasured memories they will carry forever.

Wayne will also be deeply missed by his brother, Norman Peters, O’Leary, PE, brother-in-law, Al MacDonald (Lynne), Stratford, PE, sister-in-law, Sheila MacDonald (Michael Campbell), Budapest, Hungary and his dear nieces, Anna and Sarah Campbell.

In addition to his parents, Wayne was predeceased by his parents-in-law, Allison and Anna (McIntyre) MacDonald and his brother-in-law, Jim MacDonald.

Wayne truly lived by the seasons. In the summer, his plans were dictated by the weather: if the wind was up, he was out chasing it on his windsurfing board; on calmer days, he was on the links, trying to perfect his golf game. Best of all were the summer days spent surrounded by family and friends at the cottage in Mill River, PE.

Many winters were spent on the curling ice, aiming for the broom but most of all enjoying the company of friends at the club. Retirement unlocked a new chapter of adventure, giving him and Joanne the chance to pack their bags and explore new travel destinations together.

Wayne’s favorite place, regardless of the time of year, was the kitchen. He loved nothing more than cooking up a feast for a crowd or putting together a quiet, intimate dinner. The kitchen was also where he enjoyed a good game of cards, especially with his poker friends.

Wayne was proud of his lifelong career with the PEI Department of Transportation and Public Works.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the medical team and staff of Unit 8 at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for their compassionate care and support.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Wayne’s memory may be made to the QEH Foundation, or a cause close to your heart.

Visiting hours will be at the Belvedere Funeral Home on Thursday, July 23rd from 2:30 -4pm followed by a service of celebration in the chapel at 4pm and a reception in the funeral home.
